Kalshi vs Underdog Predict: Broad Categories or DFS Integration?

By PredictQ Team // Updated: July 2026

Underdog Predict lives inside the Underdog Fantasy app, one tab over from the pick’em contests and best ball drafts that built one of the biggest DFS audiences in the country. That placement is the entire strategy: give a few million fantasy players event contracts without asking them to download anything.

The plumbing underneath: Underdog operates as a registered futures commission merchant, with trades currently executing on Crypto.com | Derivatives North America (CDNA), a CFTC-registered exchange. In March 2026, Underdog bought Aristotle Exchange, the licensed exchange and clearinghouse behind PredictIt, to eventually run its own venue. The migration has been announced; the timing hasn’t. For now, CDNA is where your orders land.

Kalshi is the other side of this matchup: the CFTC-designated exchange with the deepest books in US prediction markets and a catalog that runs from Fed meetings to hurricane counts.

Quick Verdict

Kalshi, unless you’re already an Underdog regular. The state math alone settles it: Underdog Predict operates in 31 states plus DC, and the missing list includes New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan, a huge share of the US trading population. Add a sports-only catalog and no dedicated welcome bonus, and Underdog Predict is an add-on for existing Underdog users rather than a standalone destination. Kalshi is a destination.

Snapshot

  1. Structure: Kalshi runs its own CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse. Underdog is a registered FCM routing trades to CDNA, with its own Aristotle-based exchange announced but not confirmed live.
  2. Welcome bonus: Kalshi, trade $10 and get $10. Underdog Predict has no Predict-specific bonus; the fantasy side offers Play $5, Get $50 in bonus entries, usable on DFS only.
  3. States: Kalshi is nationwide federally, sports blocked in Michigan and contested in New York. Underdog Predict covers 31 states plus DC, including California, Texas, and Florida, but excluding most of the Northeast and Midwest betting strongholds.
  4. Markets: Kalshi runs politics, sports, economics, crypto, weather, climate, culture. Underdog Predict is sports-first, with some politics, culture, and economics sprinkled in.
  5. Fees: Kalshi’s probability-weighted formula peaks at $1.75 per 100 contracts at 50 cents, near zero at extremes, with maker discounts. Underdog charges per-contract fees comparable to other broker-tier platforms.
  6. App: Kalshi is a dedicated trading platform on web and mobile. Underdog Predict is a section of the fantasy app, same login, same wallet.

How They’re Different

Coverage is the widest gap. Underdog’s catalog assumes you’re there for sports: game outcomes, futures, player markets in the major leagues. Kalshi treats sports as one deep category among many. If a CPI print, a cabinet appointment, or an Atlantic hurricane count sounds like a market you’d trade, only one of these platforms lists it.

Within sports, Kalshi typically carries deeper liquidity and tighter spreads on the big markets. Underdog’s books are respectable in the majors and thinner everywhere else. Thin books cut both ways: worse execution if you need to exit, occasional soft prices if you’re the sharpest person watching an obscure market.

The DFS integration is genuinely good for its target user. Same app, same account, same balance as your pick’em entries. An Underdog regular can take a position on a game future in fifteen seconds without onboarding anywhere. Friction is the silent killer of multi-platform trading, and Underdog removed all of it for its own base.

For everyone else, that integration is worth nothing. And the bonus situation makes the standalone case weaker: the Play $5, Get $50 offer everyone advertises is bonus entries for fantasy contests. None of it spends on Predict contracts. Kalshi’s smaller $10 bonus is at least denominated in the thing you came to do.

The Aristotle acquisition is the piece to watch. Buying the exchange behind PredictIt gives Underdog a path to Kalshi-style vertical integration, and PredictIt’s political-markets DNA hints at where the catalog could expand. Until the migration is confirmed live, treat it as a roadmap, not a feature.

When to Pick Kalshi

  • You want markets beyond sports: politics, econ, weather, culture.
  • You live in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, or another state on Underdog’s excluded list.
  • You want a welcome bonus that actually applies to prediction markets.
  • You use limit orders and care about maker-fee discounts.
  • You want the deepest sports books, not the most convenient ones.

When to Pick Underdog Predict

  • You’re already an active Underdog Fantasy user and want event contracts one tab away.
  • You want a single wallet across DFS and prediction markets.
  • You trade sports exclusively and value convenience over depth.
  • You’re in one of the 31 covered states, including CA, TX, and FL where sportsbooks can’t operate.
  • You like the Underdog product culture and want to be there when the Aristotle exchange and broader catalog arrive.

Both?

For Underdog regulars, running both is the obvious play: keep the fantasy action where it lives and claim Kalshi’s bonus for everything the fantasy app can’t do. There’s no real tradeoff since the accounts serve different jobs.

Bottom Line

Underdog Predict is a feature. A well-executed feature bolted onto one of the best DFS products in the country, and if you’re already in that app, use it. But a sports-only catalog in 31 states with no trading bonus doesn’t compete with a full exchange, it complements one.

Kalshi is the exchange. Underdog is the extra tab. Set them up in that order. Kalshi signups HERE, Underdog Predict HERE.
